Effective Diagnostic Markers for Schizophrenia

Researchers sought to develop clinical diagnostic markers for schizophrenia using data from healthy individuals and patients using multivariate analyses to assess eye movements and cognitive functions. They found that both eye movements and cognitive functions were effective in discriminating between healthy individuals and schizophrenia patients. Seven pairs of measures, combining eye movement and cognitive function data, showed high and robust discrimination performance, making them suitable for clinical diagnosis. The findings have the potential to assist in developing objective, portable diagnostic methods for earlier intervention and shared decision-making in schizophrenia cases.
