Study Suggests COVID-19 Infection May Increase Risk of Developing Schizophrenia

A study explored the likelihood of developing schizophrenia following a COVID-19 infection. Results indicate that changes in the immune system caused by COVID-19 could potentially lead to schizophrenia. Based on the examination of schizophrenia’s pathophysiology and etiology, along with the pathogenic mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2, the study suggests a heightened risk of schizophrenia as a long-term consequence of COVID-19. Consequently, it recommends that healthcare professionals prepare to address these potential future risks.
