Study Reveals Age and Sex Influence on Health Impact of Schizophrenia’s Genetic and Environmental Risks

A study analyzed how schizophrenia’s polygenic risk and exposome scores impact health, noting age and sex differences. Analyzing data from 3099 and 6264 participants, it found that age influences the link between exposome scores and health deterioration, particularly in older individuals. Furthermore, exposome scores more negatively affect physical health in females. These results indicate that higher exposome scores are associated with worse health outcomes, especially among older and female groups, emphasizing their consideration in schizophrenia studies.
